ATS Boolean Search for Sales
How Sales recruiters write ATS Boolean strings: 10 starter searches, the ATS syntax rules, and the cluster vocabulary each string draws on.
ATS Boolean syntax rules
- 1
No platform operators
A keyword box reads AND, OR and NOT as words, not as Google syntax. site:, intitle: and filetype: are treated as literal text, so a string that carries them matches nothing.
Our convention — not platform-documented
- 2
Alternates live in one OR group
Put every accepted job title in a single parenthesized OR group and every core skill in a second. Greenhouse documents this shape — `(MIT OR Harvard) AND "Computer Science"` — and it is the one every ATS parser we have seen accepts.
- 3
Two nesting levels is the ceiling
Groups may sit side by side (depth 1); nesting a group inside a group (depth 2) is the practical limit before parsers start reading the string unreliably. This is our review, not a published limit.

What this ATS page gives you
Plain Boolean only — parenthesized OR groups joined with AND — the shape Greenhouse documents and the conservative subset for ATS boxes that publish nothing. Each of the 10 strings below is built from that role's own titles and skills, so the Sales half of the cell is real vocabulary rather than a swapped noun.
Sales hiring leans on B2B Enterprise, Key Account Management, Strategic Partnerships; the searches weight those domains first and fold in the rest of the cluster's vocabulary after.

The 10 Sales searches on this page
One ATS Boolean string per role: Account Executive, Key Account Manager, Sales Manager, Business Development Manager, Sales Development Representative, Business Development Representative, Enterprise Account Executive, Channel Sales Manager, Sales Operations Manager, Customer Success Manager.
Every string keeps the OR groups marker and clears the Boolean lint checks — quoting, uppercase operators, balanced groups. Lint is a pre-flight check, not platform acceptance: paste one and read the count before you trust it.
Where these strings paste
Paste a ATS Boolean string into Workday, Greenhouse, Taleo, SmartRecruiters, Instahyre. The OR groups marker is what tells you the dialect: if it is missing, the string belongs to another platform's grammar.

How do I write a ATS Boolean search for Sales roles?
Start from the ATS Boolean strings on this page and keep their OR groups markers intact. Each carries the role's alternate titles in one OR group, its core skills in a second, and the Sales credentials and systems beside them, so the search reads as one focused requirement rather than a pile of keywords.
Which Sales titles and skills should the ATS search cover?
Cover alternates such as Account Executive, Key Account Manager, Sales Manager, and weight the skill core with Revenue Quota, Pipeline Generation, Client Acquisition. ATS Boolean reads OR groups, so quote every multi-word phrase and keep AND, OR and NOT uppercase — an unquoted phrase is two loose words.
Why does the ATS string look different from the ATS one?
Each dialect has its own grammar. The ATS string is plain Boolean; the ATS Boolean string uses OR groups because that is what the platform's own search box parses. Pasting one dialect into another platform is the usual reason a search returns nothing.
