LinkedIn Boolean Search via X-Ray
Two boxes, two syntaxes. LinkedIn Recruiter's filters take documented Boolean; the free bar documents nothing. Google takes site:linkedin.com/in/ and reaches profiles beyond your network. Write for the box you are pasting into.
One brief, one X-Ray string
Finance Manager, CA or CFA, SAP, Bengaluru — pasted into Google, not LinkedIn:
Google X-Ray — paste as-is
site:linkedin.com/in/ ("finance manager" OR "fp&a manager") AND (CA OR CFA) AND (SAP OR "Oracle ERP") AND Bengaluru
Lint this stringSpelling matters. Bengaluru is also written Bangalore; search (Bengaluru OR Bangalore) to cover both.
Run this string on Google
free · no accountOpen in Google needs no key and no quota — the search runs in your browser. The in-page runner below is optional: when the deployment has a free Programmable Search key, it lists the same public pages here without leaving the page.
Want new matches by email? Google Alerts takes the same query and emails new results. Operator support varies and alerts are noisy — verify each profile before you reach out.
Already have Recruiter? Its filters are where LinkedIn documents Boolean — the free bar publishes nothing. Open LinkedIn Recruiter.
LinkedIn X-Ray syntax rules
- 1
Pick your box first. LinkedIn Recruiter and Recruiter Lite document plain Boolean inside their filters; the free search bar publishes no operator list. Google X-Ray is the free route, and one string never serves both.
- 2
Open every X-Ray string with site:linkedin.com/in/ — Google documents site:, and /in/ is the public-profile path. Without it the same words return company pages.
- 3
Quote every multi-word title. Google documents quotes and (in its 2019 operator page) OR; parentheses group alternatives but are not in the current list.
- 4
intitle: is reported, not documented, by Google. Exclude with -term, never NOT — Google documents the minus, and this product emits no exclusions at all.
- 5
Cap geography with one city term. X-Ray has no location filter, so the city must live in the string.

LinkedIn search FAQs
What is LinkedIn X-Ray search?
Searching public LinkedIn profiles through Google instead of LinkedIn's own bar: lead with site:linkedin.com/in/, then quoted Boolean groups. It reaches profiles beyond your network and uses Google's documented site:, quotes and minus operators.
Why doesn't site: work inside LinkedIn search?
site: is a Google operator. LinkedIn's own Boolean documentation covers Recruiter filters — AND, OR, NOT, quotes and parentheses — and does not list site:. Use plain Boolean inside Recruiter and save site: for a Google X-Ray.
Can I generate LinkedIn strings from a JD automatically?
Yes. The JD to 3 strings tool returns a LinkedIn X-Ray string free (3 conversions a day, no login), and the workspace generator writes both the X-Ray and Bing variants from the live brief alongside the other dialects.
