CV X-Ray Search Strings

A Google/Bing X-Ray for public CV and résumé documents: intitle: (reported, not documented) and filetype: (documented), then the role's terms. This guide carries the syntax rules, a worked example, and one page per cluster with a ready-to-paste string for every role.

One brief, one CV X-Ray string

Finance Manager — paste as-is:

CV X-Ray — paste as-is

intitle:("resume" OR "cv") AND (filetype:pdf OR filetype:docx) AND ("Finance Manager" OR "Senior Finance Manager" OR "FP&A Manager") AND ("Financial Modeling" OR "P&L Management" OR "Working Capital")

Open in Google needs no key and no quota — the search runs in your browser. The in-page runner below is optional: when the deployment has a free Programmable Search key, it lists the same public pages here without leaving the page.

CV X-Ray syntax rules

  1. 1

Open with intitle: for resume or cv

intitle: is not in Google's current operator list; independent X-Ray guides show it working. If it returns nothing, drop the operator and search the same terms bare.

Reported, not in the platform's docs

  2. 2

    Narrow the format with filetype:

(filetype:pdf OR filetype:docx) is documented by Google and keeps the result set to actual files a recruiter can open.

    Documented by the platform

  3. 3

Then add the role's own terms

Titles and skills go in the same quoted, uppercase-operator form as an ATS string, appended after the document filters. Keep the document filters first so the engine reads them first.

    Our convention — not platform-documented

CV X-Ray search FAQs

What is a CV X-Ray Boolean search string?

It is a search written in CV X-Ray's own grammar — A Google/Bing X-Ray for public CV and résumé documents: intitle: (reported, not documented) and filetype: (documented), then the role's terms. The intitle: marker is what identifies the dialect when you paste it.

Which roles does the CV X-Ray guide cover?

Six clusters, one page each: Legal, Finance, Sales, Store Managers, Marketing, Operations. Every in-scope cluster has a CV X-Ray page with one string per role, built from that role's own titles and skills.

Why does the same brief need a different string per platform?

Because the search boxes parse different grammars. A CV X-Ray string is written for Google, Bing; pasting it into a platform that reads another dialect — or pasting an ATS string here — is the most common reason a search silently returns nothing.
